Land Rover launches the £599 Explore smartphone which it describes as “the toughest phone in the world”

Land Rover has launched its Explore smartphone, which it describes as the ‘toughest phone in the world.’

The phone, which is inspired by Land Rover’s 4x4 cars, is designed to operate in the most extreme conditions, and has a 4,000mAh battery that can provide power for two full days.

The phone is fitted with a protective case that can survive in both fresh and salt water in depths of up to 1.8 metres.

Extreme temperatures, including freezing cold and blistering heat won’t phase the phone, according to Land Rover.

Even when wet, the five-inch screen can be controlled, giving instant access to weather information and mapping data, plus a compass and torch.

Joe Sinclair, Director of Branded Goods and Licensing at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “This is the smartphone we’d all like to own – a perfect combination of design and functionality that embodies the Land Rover DNA and enables customers to be outdoors for longer, with the confidence to go further.”

For keen adventurers, there is also a range of additional packs to add on to the basic phone.

An ‘Adventure Pack’ comes with a 3,600mAh additional battery, TPU protective case and stainless steel carabiner.

Alternatively, a ‘Bike Pack’ has a bike mount for both the bike stem and handle bars.

The Explore phone with Adventure Pack costs £599 ($840), and will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 26 February.
