Google launches two new Pixel 3a smartphones
Google has announced two new mid-price-range smartphones — Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.
It’s the first time Google has released devices in this price category.
Both handsets include an OLED display and come in three colours — Just Black, Clearly White and Purple-ish.
Google says they both sport a range of high-end features.
One of the most notable is that they boast the same rear camera sensor as the flagship Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL devices.
The new devices do not have two front-facing selfie cameras but their single front camera has a wide field of view.
The 5.6in Pixel 3a will retail for the price of €399.
While the 6in Pixel 3A XL will cost €479.
You can buy both now for those prices on the Google Store (unlocked and SIM-free).
The two handsets will also be available in-store from Vodafone later this month, but only in the black and white variants.
Both will cost from free on Red bill-pay plans. Pixel 3a will be priced at €349 on prepay while Pixel 3A XL will be priced at €449 on prepay.
Google says both models “let you take stunning photos using Google’s HDR+ technology with features like Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, and Night Sight to capture clear shots in low light.”
The handsets come with an 18w charger and the firm claims you will get up to seven hours of battery life on a 15-minute charge and up to 30 hours on a full charge.
Google promises three years of security and operating system updates.
In a recent industry report, Pixel was rated the highest for built-in security among all smartphones.
It also comes with the custom-built Titan M chip to help protect your most sensitive data.
Pixel 3a and the entire Pixel portfolio will get a preview of AR in Google Maps — you will be able to see walking directions overlaid on the world itself, rather than looking at a blue dot on a map.
Similarly, Time Lapse is coming soon to Google Pixel 3a too, so you can capture an entire sunset in just a few seconds of video.
