Squad of firefighting robots created in Japan

A squad of firefighting robots was created for the first time in Japan to extinguish particularly severe and large-scale fires.

The squad includes robots of four categories. Among them, in particular, is a drone, designed to transmit accurate data on the nature of the fire and its development. The squad also includes a robot for clearing debris, equipped with a bulldozer bucket and manipulator arms, as well as different types of wheeled vehicles with water cannons.

Four different-purpose robots are transported in one vehicle. The squad includes four such mobile units.

The squad was already stationed at a base in the city of Ichihara in Tokyo’s northeast Chiba Prefecture.  This place was chosen because there are multiple oil storages, refineries and liquefied gas terminals there, and it is extremely dangerous and difficult for firefighters to extinguish fires happening at such facilities.
