The Indonesian Defense Ministry disapproves of the use of Zoom
The Indonesian Defense Ministry has urged employees not to use the Zoom video conferencing service for security reasons, the Jakarta Post newspaper quoted a document by the agency as saying.
“We urge the heads of all units to forgo the use of Zoom for video conferencing,” the circular says, adding that unit heads must report to their subordinates.
The military department pointed out that in case of having a videoconference, employees should notify the ministry’s information center.
Zoom’s popularity has skyrocketed amid the coronavirus pandemic and isolation measures taken by governments in dozens of countries. At the same time, there were reports of a number of security vulnerabilities in the application.
According to various media, the German Foreign Ministry limited the use of the service by employees on the entity’s devices due to possible security threats, the US Senate also does not recommend using Zoom to hold conferences due to data security vulnerabilities .
The Zoom Video Communications company was founded in 2011. The daily audience of its app grew in March of this year 20 times, to 200 million people, compared to the data of December 2019.
Zoom’s stock has more than doubled as investors believe the company will be one of the few companies that will receive huge profits from the COVID-19 epidemic.
