Samsung unveils OLED displays that showcase everything in bright sunlight

Samsung Display has announced the development of a new generation organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display: a panel designed for use in smartphones.

The key feature of the screen is excellent readability in open spaces in bright sunlight. The South Korean giant notes that usually when using smartphones outdoors on a bright day, the display looks dark, and the text on it becomes difficult to see. Samsung’s new panel is free from this drawback.

The secret of the proposed solution lies in the use of proprietary light emission technology, which provides a wide color gamut and high brightness. New organic material is used in the panel structure.

Screen brightness is claimed to be over 1500 cd / m22… Tests show that outdoor color gamut (Ambient Color Gamut) reaches 73 percent of the DCI-P3 space.

Thus, in most situations, the display is perfectly readable in bright sunlight. The technology will be used in flagship smartphones with support for fifth generation (5G) mobile communications. Moreover, the solution is planned to be applied in conjunction with improved means of reducing energy consumption.
