Azercosmos has announced a closed tender for the construction and launch of a low-orbit satellite and insurance service, the tender commission said on Friday.

The Ministry of Communications and IT of Azerbaijan said ealier Azercosmos received proposals from global satellite companies on the joint use of orbital positions under the second satellite program.
The second satellite is LEO. It will be used for remote sensing of the Earth, in mapping studies, geological studies, etc.Launch of the second satellite is scheduled for 2015.
Work on launch of Azerbaijan's first telecommunication satellite is currently underway and it will be launched in late 2012. French Arianspace will assist in the launch of the satellite and the American Orbital Sciences Corporation company will be the manufacturer of Azerspace. The orbital position (longitude 46 east), on which the satellite will be located is used in conjunction with the Malaysian satellite operator MEASAT.
