The full transition to the digital TV format is expected to take place in late 2012 in Azerbaijan. This information was provided to ICTnews by the technical director of the “Teleradio” Production Unit Mikail Abbasov. According to him, additional equipment is now being installed by Teleradio in order to optimize the digital TV broadcasting. “12 channels have already been switched to digital broadcast format.
Teleradio will continue to hold its activities in this direction on stage-by-stage bases. As part of these activities, the number of channels broadcasted in the digital format will be increased. Teleradio is soon expected to start offering commercial packages containing 50-60 TV channels”, M. Abbasov said. Let’s note that as a result of these activities, 88-90 percent of the populated territory of Azerbaijan will be covered with the digital TV broadcasting.
