The information says that during the activity, which was attended by representatives of various companies and organizations from 54 UN member-states, Azerkosmos’ lawyer Arzu Mammadova made a detailed presentation on activities conducted in Azerbaijan for developing the space industry and improving this industry’s legal base.
A.Mammadova drew participants’ attention to the activities implemented by Azerkosmos in this direction. The session highlighted the current state of the execution of UN’s 5 agreements on peaceful uses of outer space, work conducted by international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations towards developing the space legislation and adopted principles for using sources of nuclear energy in outer space. The agenda of the activity included topics such as determination of boundaries of outer space, equal and purposeful exploitation of geostationary orbit, development of an appropriate legislative basis for peaceful use of outer space by UN member states, preparation of cadres for the space legislation sphere, etc.
The session also discussed issues connected with the management of space waste and the development of international cooperation mechanisms for peaceful use of outer space. It should be noted that within the framework of the realization of satellite projects Azerkosmos established cooperation with leading foreign space companies and international organizations, including COPUOC, and financial funds, as well as implemented a number of activities towards the development of the space legislation.
COPUOS, which was established in 1959 by the UN General Assembly’s resolution 1472, includes 74 member-states and has Legal and Scientific and Technical Subcommittees.
