As a result of these activities, which aimed at establishing international relations for creation and successful development of cosmic industry and insuring membership, representation and participation of Azerbaijan in international organization, Azerbaijan was given a membership in "COPUOS" (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) by UN’s resolution No: 66/71 dated November, 12 2012. "COPUOS" (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) was established in 1959 as a UN’s intergovernmental body.
"COPUOS" analyses scales of international cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of outer space. The Committee also takes part in preparing various programs, spreading information, conducting investigations and developing international space legislation.
Today, 70 countries are members of "COPUOS", including Azerbaijan. In order to insure Azerbaijan’s membership in "COPUOS" the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies together with relevant structures hosted a session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in Baku in 2009.
For this purpose the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies also took an active part in Committee’s sessions that have been held over the last few years.
