Azerbaijan becomes a member of “COPUOS” (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space)

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies consistently and successfully  implements  measures envisaged in the State Program for creation and development of space industry, which was approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 04, 2008.

As a result of these activities, which aimed at establishing international relations for creation  and successful development of cosmic industry and insuring membership, representation and  participation of Azerbaijan in international organization, Azerbaijan was given a membership in  "COPUOS"  (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) by UN’s resolution No: 66/71 dated  November, 12 2012.   "COPUOS"  (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) was established in 1959 as a UN’s intergovernmental body.

"COPUOS" analyses scales of international cooperation in the sphere of peaceful use of outer space. The Committee also takes part in preparing  various programs, spreading information, conducting investigations and developing international space legislation.

Today, 70 countries are members of "COPUOS", including Azerbaijan.  In order to insure Azerbaijan’s membership in "COPUOS" the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies together with relevant structures hosted  a session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in Baku in 2009.

For this purpose the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies   also took  an active part in Committee’s  sessions that have been held over the last few years.
