I believe that it would be reasonable if we create special pages at large social networks like ‘Facebook’ for winners of international Olympiads, including the Republican Olympiad in Informatics. On this pages winners of international competitions could provide their opinions on organization and holding of Olympiads and share their ideas and thoughts’.
According to information provided by ‘ICTnews’, this proposal was made by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Valizade during the 2nd final of the Republican Olympiad in Informatics held among universities. E.Valizade thinks that through these web-pages people will familiarize themselves with winners of Olympiads, who serve as an example for the rising generation.
‘Olympiads are gaining increasing popularity among young people, and involvement of regional teams in international Olympic competitions is getting stronger with each year. Our state always provided necessary support to organizers of Olympiads in Azerbaijan,’ he said.
Let’s note that International Olympiads in Informatics, which are held among colleges and universities with support of UNESCO, play important role in the development of education and innovative educational technologies in all countries of the world. International Olympiads in Informatics, which are held annually since 1989, considerably differ from Olympiads in other subjects in scale, rules and recourses.
Only Olympiads in Mathematics can compete with Olympiads in Informatics in popularity. As for expenditures and sponsors Olympiads in Informatics have already surpassed Olympiads in Mathematics. And it is quite natural because the future of our planet is in the hands of information technology experts. These experts believe that at present information is a strategic resource, and its usage determines the economic potential of the country and the future of the world economy.
