Following the proposal to create electronic versions of relevant books from museums and libraries of Azerbaijan, a list of these books was prepared and presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This information was provided to ICTnews by the Press Service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
According to the information, in line with the "State Program on development of library-information field in 2008-2013" the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has conducted monitoring of web-sites and electronic catalogs in order to detect and eliminate all shortcomings in them.
The ministry gave relevant orders and instructions to all subordinate agencies based on the results of the monitoring. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism gives special attention to the development of education for librarians. In this connection, the Russian Academy of Advanced Training of Employees Working in The Fields of Culture, Art and Tourism organized for Azerbaijani librarians distant training courses on the application of internet technologies in libraries.
10 local specialists have taken part in these courses so far. Under the agreement made between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Academy of Advanced Training, Azerbaijani libraries will obtain necessary materials from the National Information Library Centre of the Russian Federation (LIBNET). Besides that, the National Information Library Centre of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AZLIBNET) has been created over the past year. AZLIBNET already has its own web-site, and e-Catalog is now being prepared for the centre.
The managers of the Russian State Library and the Russian Library of Foreign Literature as well as known library specialists from Russia have come to Azerbaijan and met with local specialists of Azerbaijan’s leading libraries. During the meeting experts from both counties exchanged their opinions on various issues in this sphere. At the same time, different books and electronic publications on Azerbaijan, its culture, history, statehood, tourism and traditions were sent to the Alania library in Turkey.
Also, business trips were organized to Fizuli, Beylagan, Hachigabul, Kurdamir, Guba and Khachmaz regions with the aim of familiarization with the implementation of the "State Program on development of library-information field in Azerbaijan in 2008-2013", process of integration of branches of libraries, informatization of libraries, quality of e-catalogs and web-sites, level of librarians’ computer skills, operation of new departments of central libraries of the abovementioned regions.
Virtual base on literary heritage to be created in Azerbaijan
