The operating system was released to manufacturing in August this year, and became available for general public in October. According to Microsoft's Azerbaijan office, the Windows 8 localization will be completed in the first quarter of 2013. "Microsoft has also completed work on the localization of Windows Phone - a Microsoft-developed interface of the mobile operating system presented in October 2010 - into the Azerbaijani language," the company said.
Microsoft has already translated into Azerbaijani the Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems, as well as Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010 office suites. According to Rufat Gadzhialibekov, head of the representative office of Microsoft in Azerbaijan, 87 percent of software is currently used in Azerbaijan without a license, which causes a huge loss to the Azerbaijani economy as well as the local IT-business, discourages the creation of jobs and deprives the government of tax revenue. Microsoft Azerbaijan offers a number of benefits to promote legal software usage by government agencies and other consumers.
Thus, state bodies and big companies buying software for a large number of computers may get discounted prices for a variety of licensed programs. Companies that have concluded an enterprise agreement can purchase legal software for their personal computers for preferential prices under the only condition that the software is bought for at least 250 computers, Gadzhialibekov said.
