Twitter to be translated into Azerbaijani language

The Twitter microblog service will be localized in the Azerbaijani language, Barkamp Project informed press.

As it was known the question of Twitter’s localization in Azerbaijani has become a subject for discussion during the visit by Barkamp representatives to Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.

Twitter management expressed a willingness to transfer its service into Azerbaijani.

This type of work will be completed in the next few months. The appearance of the Azerbaijani version of Twitter will substantially increase its popularity", company informed. To date, the service officially supports 12 languages: Indonesian, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, and Korean.

Twitter’s availability via SMS was also discussed, a feature which currently remains impossible due to a lack of technical support by mobile operators and content providers, he said.

The Twitter leadership believes that operators and content providers themselves should be directly interested in this. Twitter is more popular among mobile users.

This is the real question - to improve the quality of the mobile Internet and thus reduce tariffs for these services, which unfortunately still remain expensive.

The number of Twitter users in Azerbaijan had significantly increased in recent years. This figure amounts to 10,000 users.

The sides also discussed the issue of providing technical support in developing local Internet resources, such as aztwi.com, which has already been in the stages of development. Baku is expected to host a seminar in late September to address this point. Twitter is expected to attend.
