“The Internet was used by hundreds of millions of people across the planet back in the 1990s, when the personal computer was a kind of luxury. Over the years, a lot has changed, and advanced technologies have made the global network available to almost everyone,” Dmitry Kuznetsov said.
He noted that the growing number of Russian users access the Internet with their smartphones. “The growth of this segment of internet users will lead to the significant increase in the number of global information network users in the coming years.”
“Interestingly, many people, who are learning to use the Internet at the moment, do not even know how to read and write. This, however, should not prevent them from enjoying all the opportunities created by the global informatization,” believes Google which seek to optimize its services for illiterate citizens.
Over 5 billion people to use Internet by 2020
“The number of users of the global information network Internet will reach five billion people by 2020”.
