Hackers found a new way to hack Android smartphones

Cyber security specialists took over the role of hackers for a while and tested smartphones for security. The check helped experts to learn how hackers can hack into mobile devices in a new way.

The study was conducted by representatives of VUSec. The results of the experiment they published in the organization’s blog. During the study, experts discovered a new technology for hacking smartphones, which was called GLitch. With its help, according to experts, you can find weaknesses in the hardware Rowhammer.

The new technology allows hackers to use for personal purposes data that is stored in the memory cells of smartphones. Specialists noted that attackers can “enter” someone else’s device through a mobile browser. You can “infect” a gadget through a malicious program written in the JavaScript programming language. According to experts, with the help of the required application hackers will see the vulnerabilities of the smartphone, which can be attacked.

Specialists VUSec in the above manner hacked one gadget for the sake of the experiment. “Victim” was a mobile device company LG – a model Nexus 5. Experts managed to penetrate the memory of the smartphone immediately through two mobile browsers – Firefox and Chrome. Specialists noted that they took about two minutes to open the phone.

Representatives of the company VUSec acknowledged that they could not crack new smartphones. However, experts do not doubt that real hackers will be able to open mobile devices in this way. Experts themselves for hacking the gadget developed the “infected” JavaScript code, which was first launched into a standard web page, and then the same page was opened on the smartphone.

Employees of Firefox and Google after the statements of VUSec said about the work done on the bugs and the strengthening of mobile versions of browsers. The last was especially difficult, because the day before it became known about the weak places Google-cards, through which scammers invited users to go to advertising pages.
