WhatsApp group video calling feature goes live

Earlier this month, Facebook at its annual F8 developers’ conference, unveiled a number of new features for its social network. The company might soon venture into the dating space where more popular apps such as Tinder have already established a strong foothold. However, one of the major changes were made in the most popular messaging application — Whatsapp, where users can make group video calls.

WhatsApp might be a cornerstone of the messaging world, but the platform lacks one feature which Skype and other rivals offer — Group video calling. The video chat feature is arguably long overdue. The company has finally added this feature.

As per a tweet by WaBetainfo, the new beta update is available for both Android and iOS users. However, the new feature is available only for a handful of users, so if you have received it, you might be lucky. iOS users can look for WhatsApp version 2.18.52 and 2.18.145 for Android users.

In order to check if you have received this update, you need to make a normal video call, after updating the app. While making that call, check if there is a new "Add participant" option. If you find that option, it means that your smartphone is one of the few devices to receive the beta update. In addition, the new group calling feature cannot be activated with an invitation system, as per the cited source.

Besides, WhatsApp recently added a feature that gives users the option to retrieve their deleted media from WhatsApp. If you have accidentally deleted a media file from WhatsApp’s folder, then you can go back to the chat through which it was sent and tap on it to re-download the file. The media files are said to be stored on WhatsApp’s server for up to 30 days, the post which they are erased.
