The network security segment grew the fastest, up 12.6 percent to USD 14.3 billion, due to increasingly complex and hybrid network environments. This has benefited vendors with a broad portfolio, such as Cisco, Palo Alto and Fortinet, Canalys said.
Cisco increased its total market share half a point last year to 9.9 percent, and Palo Alto Networks rose by 1 percent point to 6.9 percent of the market. Check Point and Symantec were tied in fourth place with 6.1 percent, both slightly down on their shares in 2017, while Fortinet grew to 5.5 percent.
Canalys said it expects to see more acquisitions in the sector this year, as the market remains highly fragmented, providers look to expand their product ranges, and new threats emerge.
Global security equipment market grows 9%
Cisco led the global market for cybersecurity products in 2019, with a nearly 10 percent share, while Palo Alto Networks showed the strongest growth among the top players, according to research by Canalys.
