Government eyes Information Security Centre project

The Azerbaijani government is considering setting up a National Information Security Centre.
Elmir Velizade, deputy minister of communications and information technology, said that the government has received several proposals to set up the centre:
"We expect issues concerning creation of the centre to be resolved soon so that we can launch work on this," the deputy minister said.

Velizade explained that every country has special structures for information security."The aim is to provide timely information to the public, including business and state structures, about threats. This is the main function of such a centre.

These structures are mostly institutional, but considering the regulations of the Convention on Cybercrime, national centres for information security can provide institutional coordination and serve as a starting point for the coordination of work with similar structures in other countries. Our initiative is to create a National Centre of Information Security," Velizade said.

To date 15 state structures have joined the Electronic Government portal, which provides 156 services in all, Elmir Velizade said. The full launch of the portal is expected in March 2012.
