In remarks at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of socioeconomic development in 2011, Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said: “An important role in turning Azerbaijan into a regional ICT center is played by the BakuTel International Exhibition and Conference of Telecommunications and Information Technologies carried out by Iteca company in recent years and enjoying great respect in the Caspian region.
A vivid example of that is the participation of 250 companies from 30 countries at the 2011 exhibition, the fact that 60 per cent of them represented foreign countries and 19 countries were represented with national pavilions.
This year Baku will host the World Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and the BakuTel international exhibition will be dedicated to the prospects of the global network. In this regard, the UN has already approached the government of Azerbaijan.
