Azerbaijan’s raiting in ICT sector moves up

World Economic Forum (WEF) has published a new report on the development of information technologies (The Global Information Technology Report 2012). The report also reflects the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) on 142 countries around the world.  Having improved its performance 9 points, Azerbaijan is settled on the 61st position in the ranking with 3.9 points.

The document has a separate section, which is devoted to our country under the heading “Azerbaijan: Big ambitions in a rapidly changing world” dealing with the efforts of our republic for the development of ICT and maximum benefits. Azerbaijan, along with Kazakhstan and Russia is listed as the most developed country in terms of information technologies in the CIS space. Georgia came in the 88th, but Armenia – 94th.

The document highlights the priority of the sector for government, preparedness for innovations, economic impact, the literacy of population, availability of ICT services as strengths of IT development in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has also maintained its leading position among the CIS countries by the number of Internet users. Note that the WEF ranking was based on the countries’ performance  for  2010.

Sweden has ranked the first place for three consecutive years since its first release in 2002. Singapore is in the second place again, and Finland is in the third place. The top ten also includes Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.
