The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has issued a press release hailing Azerbaijan’s transition to an electronic visa system. This information was provided to “ICTnews” online news service by the Press-Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the ministry, the general secretary of UNWTO Taleb Rifai said that this move will give a strong impetus to the development of tourism in Azerbaijan and will significantly increase of inflow of tourists to the republic. The press-release also says that the simplification of visa system is one of the main factors that facilitate the development of the tourism sector specifically and the economy of the country in whole.
It should be noted the application of electronic visa system in Azerbaijan began in March 2013 under the order of the President of Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. With the introduction of the new system the process of document handling was simplified, costs and time associated with the issuance of visas were reduced.
