Baku is hosting the first meeting of the Working Group on ICT of the Turkic Council

Baku is hosting the first meeting of the Working Group on Information and Communication Technologies of the member countries of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council).
 
The Meeting organized by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies is being attended by the plenipotentiary representatives of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
 
The participants of the meeting are discussing issues relating to the development of ICT, creation of a mechanism for multilateral cooperation and identification of new opportunities, initiatives and proposals supporting the regional development.
 
The meeting began with a welcoming speech delivered by Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizadeh.  He said that the initiative to create a working group on ICT was put forward by Azerbaijan at the last summit of the Turkic Council and was supported by the heads of states.
 
Elmir Velizadeh also informed the guests about Azerbaijan’s ICT policy, stressing that ICT plays an important role in the sustainable development.
 
It was noted that a perfect legal regulatory framework for the development of the ICT sphere had been created in Azerbaijan.
 
“National strategies have been adopted and government programs have been developed in the country. Also, Azerbaijan has joined international conventions. There is great potential for cooperation in the ICT sphere, particularly in the fields of e-government, high technologies parks, organisation of satellite services and other areas,” Elmir Velizadeh said.
 
Then, representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey made presentations about the successes these countries had achieved in the ICT sphere and the prospects for the development of this sphere.
 
Following the presentations, the sides discussed the prospects for the development of cooperation in the ICT sphere.
 
Note that the proposals of the Working Group will be presented tomorrow at the first meeting of ICT Ministers.
