The fourth day of the last week of April is marked as Girls in ICT Day by the world community.
Girls in ICT Day was established in 2010 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies.
The International Girls in ICT Day, which was held this year under the theme of “Expand horizons, change attitudes”, was widely celebrated in Azerbaijan as well.
On the occasion of this significant day, an excursion to the Main Satellite Ground Control Station was organized for female students of the senior forms of the “XXI Century” Educational Complex.
The excursion was initiated by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies to promote the role of women in ICT.
During the visit, the students were provided with detailed information about the creation of space industry in Azerbaijan, the activity of Azercosmos – the national satellite operator, the “Azerspace-1” telecommunication satellite operated by Azercosmos, the “Azersky” earth observation satellite and Azerbaijan’s next satellite project – “Azerspace-2”.
The students were shown the ground-based systems located in the area of the Main Satellite Ground Control Station and were informed in detail about their operation.
The participants of the excursion were also told about the importance of increasing female students’ participation in ICT activities.
At the end of the excursion, a photo of the students with the employees of the Main Satellite Ground Control Station was taken for memory.
