The registration system of mobile phone IMEI-codes is expected to be launched in Azerbaijan in the second quarter of 2012, head of the Azerbaijani company RCom Seymur Mammadov informed.
He said that the project was supported by state agencies and will be implemented within the fight against terrorism.
"The work has been intensified within the project," he said. "I think that only minor features left. Afterward, the agencies involved in the project will make adjustments in their legal aspects. The project will be directly supervised by the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry."
After the legal base on the project is established on a project, one should solve technical issues. They include integration of the system in the networks of mobile operators, he added.
All information within the project will come in a single center. It will be created at the Communications and IT Ministry. The database will be supplemented by ІMEІ codes of mobile phones, which will be imported into the territory of Azerbaijan. They will be registered via the customs authorities and connecting to the operator's network.
After the database is formed, one can have an idea of the mobile phone market (market volume, number of legal and illegal products). The new system will more effectively combat both the theft and the illegal import of phones into the country.
