Microsoft recommends Skype for TV users to contact their respective television manufacturers to find out if the TV app will still be available on their respective models. While there are no further updates to the application itself, keeping the app available on the platform is up to the discretion of the television manufacturers.
Skype for TV began in 2010, and it provided users with the option to make calls from the living room with a Skype account and Internet connection. The setup required an integrated or external webcam for the television to take advantage of Skype’s end-to-end video call, and smartphones today with gradually improving cameras built-in can accomplish the same result in fewer steps.
Microsoft will stop TV support for Skype in June 2016
Starting from June 2016, Microsoft will stop supporting the Skype for TV application.
