To access the YouTube VR app, customers will need a Daydream-ready phone (like the Google Pixel) and the recently released Daydream View headset and controller. The app was designed specifically for VR, offering a growing collection of 360 degree videos. In addition, users can also watch standard videos on a virtual movie screen through the app's new theater mode. Likewise, the app includes voice search support, and users can sign into their accounts to access channels they have subscribed to, check out playlists, and more.
Current YouTube VR content includes virtual reality videos from creators like Tastemade, Roosterteeth, the Natural History Museum in London, Meredith Foster, HuffPost RYOT, Curiscope, Tritonal, and StyleHaul -- covering VR news, comedy, beauty, education, cooking, travel, concerts, and a variety of other immersive experiences.
The Daydream View headset is made with flexible and soft breathable fabrics, allowing the device to be 30% lighter than similar products while providing added comfort. To use the Daydream View, customers simply need to drop in a Daydream-ready smartphone (like the Google Pixel) and lock it into place. From there, the phone and headset connect wirelessly with an auto alignment system. In addition, the product includes a compact controller packed with sensors, letting customers interact with content through movements and gesture. And when not in use, the controller can slide right inside the headset for easy storage.
