Skype, which is one of the most popular video chat services in town, has today updated its web platform to introduce a significant feature that’ll prove to be extremely useful for new users. The Microsoft-owned messaging client has introduced a guest login option that’ll enable you to quickly start a Skype conversation with someone without having to either login or even sign up on the platform.
Not only this, you aren’t even required to download the software client on your desktop or your handy smartphone. The guest login feature, which Skype is making available to everyone for free, can only be accessed through its web platform. This eliminates all hassles of trying to communicate with someone using text, voice or video. You’re no longer required to provide any personal info, a username or search for the required person the platform.
To start using this service, you’ll need to navigate to skype.com and click on ‘Start a Conversation’ button that prominently resides at the centre of the web page. Then add your name to initiate the guest conversation. You will be given a link to share with those friends or family members you wish to invite to this conversation. The link is shareable via e-mail and can be copied to be shared on other social networks.
You can invite up to 300 people to converse and up to 25 to join you for a voice or video call on the web platform, all for free. These guest conversations (i.e. the unique link) have been set to last for 24 hours.
Users with the link can join the conversation immediately using Skype’s desktop or mobile app or the web platform which is accessible to them for free (and without registration) as well. This guest mode doesn’t strip you of the best features of Skype. It provides you with 1-to-1 and group instant messaging, voice and video calls, screen sharing and even file sharing in this guest mode. But if you’re looking to gain access to other features, stay in the conversation longer then you’ll need to get a Skype account or login into the app or web platform.
