As per a new job listing on LinkedIn, Samsung is seeking a Principal Program Manager who will take care of a number of job responsibilities including "drive the execution and delivery for Samsung’s upcoming AI (Artificial Intelligence) assistant on Galaxy S8." This listing was first spotted by @rquandt who tweeted about the same along with the screenshot.
For uninitiated ones, Bixby is the rumored name for Samsung's AI virtual assistant which will make its debut with the Galaxy S8. It will be the new player in the field of AIs and will be competing with the likes of Cortana, Siri, and Google Assistant. Initially, it was thought to be meant only for the Galaxy S8 but is now said to expand to other Samsung devices (including IoT offerings) gradually.
While Bixby will work like any other AI assistant at the core level, it is reported to have different features to make it unique and stand apart in the competition. For example, Bixby is said to feature OCR capabilities which will allow it to scan and visualize thing on which it will be pointed at using the Galaxy S8's camera. The camera app on the phone is said to feature a dedicated Bixby button which will trigger the OCR functionalities. Other rumored Bixby features include the ability to facilitate digital payments and control all native apps on the smartphone.
If you are excited to see Bixby in action, you will have to wait until the Galaxy S8 launch. Samsung has already confirmed that the phone will not be made official at MWC which is usual launch time for the next Galaxy flagship. As per latest reports, Samsung is rumored to launch the Galaxy S8 on March 29th in New York.
