Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the application tells us virtually nothing as to what Infinity Display actually entails -- save the fact that it's to be used primarily with mobile telephones. The lack of detail makes sense given that Samsung wants to keep the S8 and S8+ under wraps for as long as possible, despite several significant leaks and sightings over the past week or so.
At first glance of the recent (and reliably-sourced) press render, the Galaxy S8's design is in-keeping with previous Sammy smartphones. The curved-edge finish is not unlike the current Galaxy S7 edge or the doomed Galaxy Note 7, but there are a couple of obvious differences.
Notably, the physical home key below the display is no more, with a button-less finish contributing to the overall polish of the 'Infinity' aesthetic. The fingerprint scanner will likely be placed to the rear of the device beside the main camera, while the reshuffle could also include a physical button on the side to accommodate Sammy's Bixby virtual assistant.
Following a bevy of leaks showing the device in all its glory, it's easy to forget that we have a good few weeks left until the UNPACKED Samsung Galaxy S8 showcase, which will take place on March 29th. Still, we'll keep you posted with the latest updates as they arrive, and in case you haven't already, check out our rumor review for a full Galaxy S8 and S8+ round-up
