Through this partnership, the IOC hopes to give stadium crowds, athletes and TV viewers around the world a new experience of the Olympic Games. Intel's main focus will be on 5G, 360° content, drones, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
The fruits of this partnership will first come to light at the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Intel True VR technology will be used to provide groundbreaking real-time VR viewing of some events.
Intel will subsequently supply technological and content support for Olympics Broadcasting Services' host broadcaster operations, and for the Olympics Channel, where fans can access news about the Olympics all year round.
And by 2018, Intel's 5G platforms will be used at the Olympics, demonstrating how this mobile standard will transform communications. Intel also plans to use drones to provide aerial images of various events.
Slow-motion, 360° technology will enable fans to relive key moments from any angle.
This deal will bring a greatly enhanced fan experience to the Olympic Games. With this initiative, Intel is joining brands such as Samsung, Panasonic and Coca-Cola as an official Olympic Partner.
