Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus: Lenovo makes better use of Motorola smartphones

Lenovo is reintroducing the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus as a special edition. Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus will be available in September and will cost 249 and 299 Euros. The Moto G5 gets as an S-model an aluminum unibody, new cameras, more memory and a larger battery. The Moto G5S Plus comes with a new dual camera.

Six months after the Mobile World Congress and the presentation of the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus Lenovo announces new variants of the two smartphones. The S-models evaluate the previous devices, but they do not replace them. On the website of Lenovo are now four instead of two models of the Moto-G5 series listed.

The hardware of the Moto G5S is now in a unibody made of aluminum, which is supposed to impart high quality. In addition, Lenovo has increased the battery from 2,800 to 3,000 mAh. In return for the neat housing, the energy storage can now no longer be replaced. In terms of hardware, there is more RAM and internal memory. Here, Lenovo now offers 3 and 32 instead of 2 and 16 gigabytes.

In addition, Lenovo is equipping the Moto G5S with a new camera that offers 16 instead of 13 megapixels and is to focus by means of autofocus via phase comparison (PDAF) faster than before. The Selfie camera of the front side now stands for poor lighting conditions an LED flash supporting to the side; in the normal Moto G5 a display flash is used. In addition, the front aperture has been improved from f / 2.2 to f / 2.0 so that more light hits the sensor.

The Moto G5S Plus is, after the Moto Z2 Force, the second Lenovo smartphone with dual camera. Two sensors, each with 13 megapixels and f / 2.0 aperture, allow the blur effects at the desired position in the picture, black and white photos as well as portraits with bokeh. In addition, the background can be separated from the foreground and replaced by any photo taken by Google. On the front sits a new 8-megapixel camera with wide angle and new LED flash, which like the Moto G5S detaches the display flash.

As a second change, the new model will have a display enlarged from 5.2 to 5.5 inches. Its resolution is still at 1,080 × 1,920 pixels.

Lenovo wants the Moto G5S in “Lunar Gray” and “Fine Gold” as well as the Moto G5S Plus in “Lunar Gray” and “Blush Gold” from September with Android 7.1.1 nougat at noncommittal prices of 249 and 299 euros into the German trade bring.
