Huawei finished third with worldwide shipments of three million slates during the second quarter. The Chinese manufacturer owned 8% of the global tablet market during the quarter, and scored an outstanding 47.1% in year-over-year growth. Amazon did even better as the company reported a gain of 51.4% in unit shipments of tablets for the second quarter. With that in mind, Amazon had a 6.2% share of the worldwide tablet market for Q2 of 2017. That was ahead of the 4.1% slice of the tablet pie that Amazon held at the same time in 2016.
Right behind Amazon was Lenovo. The latter shipped 2.2 million slabs from April through June to give it a 5.7% share. That still resulted in negative year-over-year growth of -14.6% for the quarter.
Overall, tablet shipments declined by 3.4% during the three months from April through June reaching 37.9 million units. That is off by 1.4 million tablets shipped from the 39.3 million units delivered in 2016.
IDC: Decline in global tablet shipments slows down to 3.4% in Q2 2017
IDC has just completed its analysis of the second quarter tablet market. For the three month period, worldwide tablet shipments declined by 3.4% to 37.9 million units. This performance comes despite Apple's new low priced iPad. Even detachable tablets, once expected to lead the category out of the darkness, were unable to provide much lift for the product. Apple and its iPad continued to have the top market share and also led in unit shipments. For the period from April through June, Apple shipped 11.4 million tablets worldwide, a year-over-year gain of 14.7%. Apple's market share for the quarter rose from 25.4% to 30.1%. With global second quarter tablet shipments of 5.4 million units, Samsung finished behind Apple for second place, trailing its rival by 47%.
