Adobe releases Photoshop and Premiere Elements 2018

Adobe has released Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 and Adobe Premiere Elements 2018, brand new versions of its consumer-level photo-editing and video-editing suites.

The 2018 versions remain standalone tools -- allowing users to purchase them outright -- and come with a number of new and improved features to build on previous updates.

An interesting new feature for Photoshop Elements 2018 is Open Closed Eyes. When taking photos of kids, you want to get the best possible shot, but it’s not always possible to line everything up correctly. You might secure a great action shot with a decent smile, but find the eyes are closed. With the latest 2018 update, you can find another photo with open eyes, transfer them across the other problem photo and Photoshop will magically merge both components.

The Auto Selection tool makes cutting out a background much easier, too. Instead of precision, choose the rough area and Photoshop will take the foreground and remove the entire background. Using the Replace Background guided edit, you can take a background from another photo and simply place it behind the original object.

Meanwhile, Premiere Element’s new Candid Moments takes snapshots from your videos, so you can grab photos for your collection. The Smart Trim feature enables you to cut and extract the best scenes from your raw video, whilst the Freeze Frame function will enable you to pause and slow key areas in your action videos, so you can emphasize a jump, move or similar element.

For people shooting on a GoPro on similar hardware, the updated Fix Action Cam module will fix videos with the built-in color correction. There's also a fish eye fixing tool and lens distortion effect.

If you want to export your edited video for social media, Premiere Elements now adds animated text and titles, which is ideal for uploading to Instagram.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018 and Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 are both available now as free trial downloads for Windows and Mac -- an Adobe account is required to road-test either product. Both products have an MSRP of $99.99, with upgrade pricing at $79.99 each. Users can also purchase both products in a discounted bundle for $149.99, or $119.99 as an upgrade.
