iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were the best-selling smartphones in October

Rise of Chinese smartphones in global market is palpable though Apple and Samsung continue to rule the roost. A new research has revealed that three Chinese made devices -- Vivo X20, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and Oppo R11 – have made it to the list of top 10 bestselling smartphones in October this year, surpassing devices from popular companies like HTC, Sony and LG.

According to the latest research from Counterpoint's Market Pulse November Edition that provides an insight into the smartphone sales in the month of October in 2017, the Vivo X20, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and Oppo R11 managed to make it to the top list but it is Apple and Samsung that still dominate the global arena.

Apple's iPhone 8 tops the list of bestselling smartphone in October 2017 with a 4.6 percent global market share, followed by its bigger sibling iPhone 8 Plus (4 percent), Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (2.4 percent), Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (1.5 percent), iPhone 6 (1.2 percent), and iPhone 7 (1.2 percent).

he Vivo X20 also made it to the list with a 1.2 percent market share. It is followed by Samsung Galacy S8 (1.2 percent), Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (1.1 percent), and Oppo R11 (1.1 percent).

However, the report said that consumers' anticipation of iPhone X could have limited the sales volume of the iPhone 8 compared to iPhone 7, and that Apple's share in Novemner should increase with the launch of the iPhone X.

"Sell-through volume was strong in markets like India due to Diwali sales. Developed markets also picked up, thanks to a push from operators on the back of new product introductions from the top OEMs. The feature phone push with 4G LTE models continues in India," said the resport.

Interestingly, Xiaomi's budget smartphone Redmi Note 4 seems to be doing well even in the second of the half of the year. It is touted to be the best selling smartphone in India in the first six months of 2017.
