German uses surveillance drones to save drowning people

Surveillance drones are now flying over the Baltic coast of Germany for saving drowning people.

Drones are able to reach speeds of up to 85 km/h and carry a life-saving cushion on board, which automatically inflates when it contacts the water.

“Drones will not replace rescuers, but will complement their functions. They approach the swimmer in need of help as soon as possible and help him stay on the water until the rescue boat arrives,” Thomas Povasserat, a water rescuer at the German Red Cross, explained.

The French company Drone Helper developed drones-rescuers. The developers presented first such aircraft in August 2017, Belta reports.
