The agency's proposals mainly provide for economic sanctions making it disadvantageous to produce and distribute pirated products. Mr. Imanov added there is the positive trend to reducing piracy in Azerbaijan.
Piracy in the publishing sector stood at 61 per cent in 2005, but today the figure is 40 per cent. This index was broken down to 90 per cent in the audio and video sector. Today it has dropped to 70 per cent. The piracy rate in software was 96 per cent and has now dropped to 88 per cent.
He went on: "Despite these positive figures, we want to bring this level to world figures, particularly, developed countries' indices.
"Thousands of pirated discs were withdrawn from sale this year thanks to law enforcement agencies. Currently it is impossible to find counterfeit goods in large retail stores."
He added that Azerbaijan has completely updated its national anti-piracy programme and 'Law on Combating Piracy and Intellectual Property Rights' is under adoption. Perhaps, it is unique in the world. One of useful tools of combating piracy is a hotline number 960 which is now available.
