Samsung Pulls Galaxy Note 5, S6 edge+ from Monthly Security Update List

Samsung has officially stopped rolling out monthly security updates for the Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 edge+, so these new models would no longer get any such improvements in the coming months.
 
As part of monthly security updates, Samsung rolls out fixes for the security vulnerabilities discovered in the Android operating system and the core apps.
 
Needless to say, without such updates, users of the Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 edge+ would remain vulnerable to any potential attacks, which makes the switch to another supported device strongly recommended.
 
News of Samsung dropping supported for these two models was shared as part of the September 2018 security patch, which the company should begin shipping to its models these days. In the release notes, the company published the list of supported models to get the new security patch, and both the Note 5 and the S6 edge+ are missing.
 
While monthly security updates would no longer be shipped to these devices, there’s a chance that Samsung could actually publish emergency patches should any major vulnerability be discovered. However, switching to a supported device is still a thing that all users should do.
 
Samsung giving up on the Note 5 and the S6 edge+ isn’t surprising, as the company typically offers software support for two years after launch. Both models are already 3 years old, so it makes sense for the South Korean firm to move to focus to newer models.
 
At the same time, the standard S6 and S6 edge have already been abandoned as well earlier this year, so Samsung gradually leaves behind more models as they step out of their supported lifecycles.
 
Both the Note 5 and the S6 edge+ have been fairly successful models for Samsung, but at this point, it’s not know how many units are still in use.
