Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus, Galaxy J6 Plus to launch in India on September 24

Samsung might be preparing to add two new smartphones to its Galaxy J series lineup in India. The company is reportedly preparing to launch the Galaxy J6 Plus and the Galaxy J4 Plus smartphones in the country as early as this month.

Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus and Galaxy J6 Plus are said to launch in India on September 24. According to MySmartPrice, Samsung‘s two new Galaxy J series devices will feature Infinity Display design similar to one seen on Galaxy J8 early this year. The report also mentions that Galaxy J4 Plus and Galaxy J6 Plus will sport a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as opposed to rear-mounted fingerprint sensors seen on other models. The fingerprint sensor on these two upcoming devices could be embedded into the power button on the side.

While complete specifications and price of the upcoming devices have not been revealed yet, the Galaxy J4 Plus and Galaxy J6 Plus could be another attempt from Samsung to stay competitive against Xiaomi in the entry-level price segment. The report from MySmartPrice also mentions the Galaxy J6 Plus will feature dual rear camera setup combining a 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors and an 8-megapixel single camera at the front.

The Galaxy J4 Plus, being a lower-end model, is expected to get a single 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. These two models could also get support for Samsung’s AR Emoji feature, first seen on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ models early this year. The introduction of this feature on Samsung’s lower end model will help it compete with brands like Oppo and Vivo.

Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus is expected to launch with 4G of RAM while Galaxy J4 Plus might be offered with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The Galaxy J4 Plus was recently spotted online in India, suggesting its imminent launch. Apart from specifications, the Galaxy J4 Plus and Galaxy J6 Plus are also expected to offered in ‘vibrant color opions’. There is a possibility that these new phones will be offered in red in addition to standard colors like black, white and grey.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung recently regained its leadership from Xiaomi in India’s smartphone market. However, the company is facing uphill battle in the sub-Rs 15,000 where Chinese smartphone makers including Huawei’s Honor and Oppo’s Realme are tightening their grip. Samsung made a comeback due to demand for its Galaxy J8 smartphone and with new J-series models, Samsung might hope to replicate that success.
