Zhaoxin, a company co-owned by the Shanghai municipal government and VIA Technologies, has introduced the Chinese octa-core KX-6000 x86 CPUs.
These Chinese octa-core KX-6000 x86 CPUs will be able to provide the same level of performance as compared to a 7th generation core i5 CPU and keeping in mind that this is the first try at a commercial CPU that is pretty impressive performance.
The chips are going to be based on the 16nm process by TSMC, which is not groundbreaking but keeping in mind that Intel is having issues pushing the 14nm based chips and AMD is using chips based on the 12nm process the Chinese octa-core KX-6000 x86 CPUs are not too far off.
In a year, when the CPUs are refreshed they should be able to catch up and I am sure that there will be 14nm or 12nm chips on the shelves by the end of 2019. This not only puts pressure on Intel but is great for consumers as well.
Intel has already been having issues with the 10nm process as it has been delayed time and time again but now it is also having issues with 14nm yields. Keeping in mind that all the Intel chips that are going to come out this year, as well as 2019, are going to be based on the 14nm process this is very bad news indeed.
The Chinese octa-core KX-6000 x86 CPUs are able to operate at a frequency of 3 GHz, which is most likely the base clock. Information regarding the boost clock is not known right now, but we will keep you updated so stay tuned for more information regarding the matter. Other than that we know that these chips will support DDR4-3200 memory. There will also be some form of integrated graphics that we do not know about right now.
