Rouyu Technology has launched the world’s first flexible smartphone named FlexPai, beating brands like Samsung who have been showing concepts for the same on a regular basis. Rouyu Technology is a display company, which specialises in flexible displays. The FlexPai smartphone starts at 8,999 and 12,999 yuan (£1,010 to £1,460). Twitter tipster OnLeaks states that the device will be available for consumers to purchase starting November 1.
The device looks a bit unpolished and too huge to be carried around and called a smartphone. We might have to wait for companies like Samsung and Huawei to come out with a more polished version of the same which people can easily fit inside their pockets.
In a tweet, the leaker going by the handle IceUniverse stated that this will be the world’s first device to be powered by the yet to be launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 processor which is also being called Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.
During the launch presentation the company said that FlexPai will come with a Snapdragon processor based on the 7nm process with a new AI platform and 5G support.
FlexPai sports a 7.8-inch AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 4:3, which turns to a 4-inch display when folded. The device runs Water OS, which might be a forked version of Android or a custom operating system. It comes with 6GB/8GB RAM paired with 128GB/256GB/512GB of internal storage.
The device only comes with one dual camera setup, which can be used to take both normal images and selfies. The dual camera module consists of a 16MP primary wide-angle sensor paired with a 20MP secondary telephoto sensor. Details about the battery capacity weren’t unveiled, however, the company did announce that the device uses their own Ro-Charge fast charging technology to get the device from 0 to 80 per cent within an hour.
