A robotics laboratory named “Robopark” was launched at secondary school No. 23 with the organizational support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (MTCHT).
The laboratory was created within the framework of the project implemented jointly with the United Nations Development Program.
The purpose of the project is to increase modern scientific and technical knowledge of secondary school students, raise their interest in high technologies, develop prototypes for robotics, and to create necessary conditions for their testing.
Clubs on informatics, programming, and robotics will be organized at the laboratory for pupils of the seventh and ninth grades. The pupils will be taught in these clubs the secrets of programming to operate robots.
At the opening ceremony today, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Elmir Velizadeh, noted that at the laboratory, conventionally named “Robopark”, pupils, along with mastering primary robot-development skills, will learn robotics operation principles and programming secrets.
“This laboratory will also create an opportunity for pupils to test their technological ideas. In general, the technical knowledge acquired by secondary school students will give them in the future the opportunity to give preference to technical and technological professions when choosing a specialty in universities. From this perspective, I believe that the laboratory created at school No. 23 will also encourage students to choose technical specialties,” the deputy minister added.
Deputy Minister of Education Mahabbat Veliyeva thanked the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and the United Nations Development Program for opening the laboratory at the school.
She noted that the laboratory will serve as an example for other schools and that they will be able to take advantage of this experience.
According to Mahabbat Veliyeva, the experience gained in this laboratory will be useful for successful participation of secondary school students in technology competitions.
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti expressed satisfaction with the support provided by the UNDP to the creation of the laboratory.
He noted that the modernization of educational institutions in Azerbaijan, as well as providing them with modern technologies contributes to the further development of the training of qualified specialists.
“The laboratory which was opened today was built on the basis of the Arduino - the most popular electronic engineering platform. This platform, which is widely used throughout the world, will help increase children’s knowledge in the industry and create a foundation for future engineering activities,” the UN representative said.
The director of school No. 23, Yulia Kerimova, expressed her gratitude to the organizers for the support they provided in the creation of the laboratory and conditions necessary for its successful operation.
At the event, the first samples of projects prepared by students were demonstrated.
Note that the company Sumaks Technologies will conduct trainings at the laboratory. This company is one of the startups that received a grant from the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies and is already functioning as a full-fledged company.
