Within the ceremony, awards were presented to the most successful women working in the ICT sector of Azerbaijan.
This year, the award ceremony was held together with a traditional banquet organized on the occasion of the official opening of Bakutel 2018, the 24th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications, Innovations and High Technologies Exhibition and Conference.
The “AWITA 2018” ceremony was attended by over 500 professionals and guests. Among them were Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Ramin Guluzade, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauska, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee Igbal Babayev, Head of the Estonian Diplomatic Mission in Azerbaijan Maija Tasa, Vice-Rector of the ADA University Fariz Ismailzade, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication Vusal Gasimli, as well as foreign ambassadors, delegates from foreign countries, and representatives of the country's IT industry.
Along with Bakutel, among the partners and sponsors of AWITA 2018 were Pasha Bank, B.EST Solutions, MONT Azerbaijan, Rabitabank, Bakinity, Lilac, R.I.S.K, Sinam, Ultra, Cybernet, Azer Agrar, Tovuz-Baltiya, Microsoft Azerbaijan, STEP IT Academy, and Synergy Partnership.
More than 100 applications were submitted for the competition.
According to the final results, winners in 11 nominations were determined as follows:
- The digital leader in the public sector – Director General of AzIntelecom Leila Mammadova;
- The innovator of the year – Innovations Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture Shabnam Mammadova;
- The jury’s choice – Radio Communications Expert at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Sahiba Hasanova;
- The founder, CEO or CIO of the year – Director General of GoldenPay Naina Mehdiyeva;
- Industry 2018: Women at AGTECH – Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Vegetables Zhala Amirbekova;
- The employer of the year – Enhanced Asan İmza digital signature operator at B.EST Solutions;
- Contribution to ICT in remote and rural regions – Bahar Abdullaeva, a teacher of secondary school No:1 named after I. Hasanov in Ismayilli region;
- The ICT teacher of the year – Aliya Akhmedova, an informatics teacher at secondary school No: 1 named after I. Gaibov in Sumgayit;
- The startup of the year – Founder and Managing Partner of Dataforest Elnara Mammadzade;
- The developer of the year – Laman Gadyrly, a teacher at IT Step Academy;
- ICT community/ICT education program – the Barama Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.
Within the framework of the AWITA competition, awards are presented annually for contribution to the development and support of the activities of the Azerbaijani Women in ICT Club – FEMMES DIGITALES.
This year, these awards were presented to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the Ministry of Education, ASAN service, the ADA University and STEP IT Academy.
Note that AWITA Award 2018 is the largest event aimed at popularizing the IT industry among women and demonstrating women’s achievements in the field of technologies and innovations in Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani Women in ICT Club – FEMMES DIGITALES was created with the aim of uniting women working in the public and private sectors, as well as training them and expanding their career opportunities in this sphere. This year the club celebrated its fourth anniversary.
