"Bakutel-2018" remembered for a number of innovations
Bakutel 2018, the 24th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications, Innovations and High Technologies Exhibition and Conference held at the Baku Expo Center has come to an end.
The exhibition was held with the support of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC), Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), the National Confederation of the Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Agency for Small and Medium Business Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Bakutel-2018 exhibition and conference was held with the organizational support of Caspian Event Organizers (CEO) and under the sponsorship of Azercell Telecom.
Among honorary guests of this year’s exhibition were ICT ministers and high-ranking officials of Russia, Turkey, Belarus, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Latvia, and Bulgaria.
230 companies from 20 countries joined the exhibition that was held from December 4 to 7, and the exhibition was memorable by their interesting and attractive stands. Among the participants were ICT companies, mobile operators, communication operators, internet providers, system integrators, distributors of well-known brands and young inventors. A number of innovations were demonstrated within the framework of the exhibition, conferences and events were held.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade spoke about the activities of Bakutel, the contributions and opportunities created by the exhibition to the ICT sector.
Head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Office for CIS countries Kirill Oparin and Director of Caspian Event Organizers Edward Stroon wished success to the exhibition.
On December 4, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva viewed Bakutel 2018, the 24th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications, Innovations and High Technologies Exhibition and Conference at the Baku Expo Center.
At the exhibition 10 countries - USA, Turkey, Belarus, United Arab Emirates, France, Italy, Poland, Croatia, Iran, and Slovenia were represented by their national pavilions. Subordinate bodies of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies were also represented in the national pavilion at the exhibition with their services, solutions, and projects. The pavilion demonstrated new trends in the development projects in the fields of telecommunication, post, high technologies, including nanotechnologies, electronic signature infrastructure, and cloud services Data Center and some startup projects that received support from the ministry. Additionally, e-commerce enterprises operated at a separate stand in the second hall of the complex.
During the exhibition, a museum dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the postal communications in Azerbaijan was opened in the lobby. Exhibits, letters, telegrams, communication devices, commutator phones, Morse code alphabet, official documents for the period, postal and communication workers’ uniforms, parcels, letters, small packages and wrappers were demonstrated there. At the same time, postcards from World War II, military letters, mailboxes, and postcards coinciding with the 70s and 80s of the last century were presented. A special stand dedicated to the development of postal telecommunication during National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s presidency was also presented at the exhibition. A prize lottery was held at the Azerpost LLC stand for all visitors of the exhibition.
On the second working day of the exhibition, an awards ceremony AWITA 2018 - The Women in IT Award for the most successful women working in the field of information and communication technologies of the country was held during an evening reception with the participation of exhibitors.
This year, a new discussion platform Bakutel Tech Talks was organized at the exhibition for the first time. The Bakutel Tech Talks event held the attention of the audience with a stream of useful information and unusual content. The session Bizimkilar (Ours) took place. The name of the session comes from the fact that our compatriots working abroad in world-renowned IT companies were the speakers. The purpose of the session was to convey to the audience the experiences of large international IT-companies and acquaint them with the latest industry know-how.
Bakutel Tech Talks continued with panel discussions under the slogan “IT-emize your perspective” and then with the session “From Startup to Business”, in which startups and business youth were invited. In this session, experienced speakers tried to convey to the audience their confidence that all ideas could be implemented. Thus, Bakutel Tech Talks raised the most pressing issues of the industry and became a fashionable platform for discussions with opinion leaders. It is planned to hold Bakutel Tech Talks annually at the exhibition in the future.
One of the innovations presented at the “Bakutel-2018” was RoboKeeper, the invention of German scientists based on cutting-edge technologies. It is considered the fastest goalkeeper in the world.
A number of structures participating in the exhibition - the Baku International Bus Terminal Complex, the Azerbaijan State Advertising Agency, the Small and Medium Business Development Agency, Azerpost LLC and other organizations presented several innovations and aroused interest among visitors with their stands.
Among the visitors of the Bakutel-2018 exhibition were more than 60 residents from children’s homes No.2 and No.3 located in Baku, who familiarized themselves with the pavilions and stands of the exhibition.
It should be noted that during the exhibition several documents were signed and conferences were held. Thus, Agency for Small and Medium Business Development and the exhibition organizers - Iteca Caspian and Caspian Event Organizers companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint cooperation, and Azerpost LLC and the Post of Russia signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
This year the business program of the exhibition was also rich in innovations. The program began with the 54th meeting of the Council of Heads of RCC (Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications) Communications Administrations. Following this a four-sided meeting of the ICT ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Turkey took place. A meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) member countries in the field of high-level information and communication technologies was also held. Then the first Caspian innovation conference on “Digital communication in the name of sustainable development” was held. As part of the exhibition the 4th Azerbaijan-Belarus ICT Business Forum was also held.
The Caspian Innovation Conference was held this year for the first time as part of the Bakutel-2018. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan has initiated the Caspian Innovation Conference. The conference, which play the role of a regional platform mainly covered topics such as “Broadband Connection”, “Artificial Intelligence”, “The Internet of Things”, “Electronic Services”, “ICT-oriented Startups and Innovative Entrepreneurship”, “Fourth Industrial Revolution”, “Knowledge-intensive production” and “Cybertraining” and others. The First Caspian Innovation Conference brought together representatives of the government, industry leaders, officials of regulatory structures and international organizations, including the leaders of the largest regional telecommunications and satellite operators. In the future, it is planned to hold a conference every year as part of the international exhibition Bakutel.
