The annual contest is traditionally held on the recommendation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
Two topics were presented for the contest. The first topic – “Write a Letter about your Hero” (for schoolchildren under 15) was presented by UPU, and the second one “I am proud that I am Azerbaijani” – presented by Azerpost LLC of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies.
Azerpost LLC has proposed this topic in connection with the 50th anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev’s first coming to power in Azerbaijan, which will be celebrated in 2019.
It should be noted that the volume of essays written in Azerbaijani, Russian or English should not exceed 1000 words.
Each student who wants to take part in the contest should sent his essay together with participant’s list to the local post offices in regions, and in Baku city – to Azerpost LLC (at 36 Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Baku, postal code: AZ1000).
The winners will be awarded money prizes in the following order:
The winners of the first place on each topic will receive 200 AZN, 2nd place – 150 AZN, 3rd place – 100 AZN, and consolation prize – 80 AZN for each winner. They will also be awarded honorary certificates and gifts.
It should be noted that the best essay on the topic proposed by the Universal Postal Union will be sent to the central office of the UPU in Bern, Switzerland on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to the conditions of the contest, the essays from the UPU member countries will be submitted to the jury formed by UNESCO. As a result, 3 main winners and 5 laureates will be determined.
Winners are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, and laureates – special prizes.
The winner of the gold medal is invited to Bern to receive the prize from the UPU International Bureau.The names of holders of silver and bronze medals along with the best essays are published in the journal “Postal Union”.
By providing comprehensive coverage of this event in the press, the International Bureau draws public attention to the countries represented by laureates. The award ceremony takes place on the World Post Day, which is celebrated every year on October 9.
It is to be recalled that Azerpost LLC has been a member of the UPU since 1993.
