Artificial intelligence, designed to analyze MRI images, has learned to predict the fear of physical pain in patients. This is stated in the study of scientists from the Balgrist University Hospital.
The existing methods for predicting the fear of physical pain are ineffective; patients answer questions in the questionnaire, and the answers can be subjective and depend on the current psycho-physical condition of the person.
The algorithm, developed by Swiss scientists, analyzes the MRI images of brain activity in the areas responsible for the perception of pain.
The AI is looking for patterns that indicate the presence of fear of physical pain, and, on the basis of this data, determines whether the patient has such fear or not, Hightech reports.
