At the opening ceremony of the competition, Head of the Department of Innovative Development of Information Society and Electronic Governance of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Rashad Azizov, spoke about the work carried out to expand the startup movement in the country. According to him, successful results have been achieved in this direction over the recent years.
“Startup tours were held last year within the project “From Idea to Business”. They covered Baku and 7 regions of the country. During these startup tours, 15 projects were brought into compliance with startup criteria. So these ideas turned into real prototypes,” Rashad Azizov added.
He noted that startup tours provide ample opportunities for young people in regions to develop, discuss and present business projects, as well as to form startup teams and ideas with the support of mentors.
“3 projects became the main winners in the startup finals, and a total of 75 ideas were formed as projects. This encourages and motivates young people who have ideas. Today, there are dozens of young people who have ideas, but experience difficulties in their realization. Our goal is to find these young people and help them develop new innovative projects. From this perspective, we consider the today’s event, held by Azerbaijan State University of Economics, to be rational.”
11 startup projects were presented at the event by teams consisting of 36 UNEC students. The founder and chairman of ISE Start-up Club Turan Suleymanov prepared the students for the competition. For this purpose, seminars and lectures were held for them.
Thus, “Cancarryou”, “Football Union”, “iFood”, “edulife.az” and “Boomerang” projects were selected as winners of the startup competition. They were awarded prizes from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies. In addition, the winners gained the right to participate in the Baku finals of startup tours held within the framework of the project “From Idea to Business” (I2B).
