Samsung launches Galaxy A80 with rotating triple camera, ‘intelligent’ battery

Samsung has launched a new lineup of devices from its midrange Galaxy A series in Bangkok, Thailand. The new lineup includes the Galaxy A70 and the Galaxy A80, which follow the previously announced Galaxy A50, Galaxy A40, and Galaxy A30.

The A80 comes with Samsung’s New Infinity display, which lacks a notch or punch hole, and has thin bezels. It’s a 6.7-inch screen with FHD plus (2400 x 1080) resolution. The A80 also includes a rotating, pop-up camera — a first for Samsung (though we’ve seen similar before on phones like the Oppo N3).

This triple camera comes with a main 48MP f/2.0 sensor, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor (with 123-degree field-of-view), and a 3D depth (Time-of-Flight) sensor. Thanks to the camera housing’s rotating design, it can be used to shoot the same quality images whether using it as a rear or selfie camera. See it in action below:

The Galaxy A80 comes with a 3,700mAh battery and 25W charging, as well as what Samsung called an “intelligent battery” system. This, Samsung said, adapts to your routine and usage patterns to save power.

Other specs include 8GB of RAM, 128GB of non-expandable internal storage space, an octa-core chipset (which is yet to be specified, but may be the Snapdragon 730), and an in-built fingerprint sensor. Its dimensions are 165.2 x 76.5 x 9.3mm.

The A80 is set to launch on May 29 and it’s coming in Phantom Black, Ghost White, and Angel Gold colors.

During its presentation, Samsung also announced availability details for the Galaxy A70 which it offered an early look at last month: it’s coming April 26. Samsung’s hasn’t rolled out a global landing page for this device yet though, like it has for the Galaxy A80.
