Baku Telephone Communications LLC launches second phase of ‘Optics to Home’ project
Baku Telephone Communications LLC (Baktelecom) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies has launched the second phase of the “Optics to Home” project aimed at providing Baku citizens with broadband services.
As part of the work being carried out, copper cables of various capacities are being decommissioned massively and replaced with fiber optic cables meeting modern standards. For greater access to multimedia services, users are being provided with free internet equipment.
As a result of this, more people have got the opportunity to connect to telephone, internet and IPTV services through one optical line.
The work, along with modern residential complexes, covers 9-storey buildings.
Currently, reconstruction works are being carried out in Sahil, Lokbatan settlements and Gobu Park residential complex, located in Garadagh district of Baku, as well as in Khatai and Yasamal districts. The measures taken in this direction will gradually cover other areas as well. It is planned to create a 144-thousand infrastructure by the end of the year. Thus, Baktelecom will provide technical transfer of 75 thousand apartments to the optical network.
Note that the “Optics to Home” project, which makes it possible to organize multimedia services in Baku in accordance with modern standards, is being carried out based on GPON technology (Gigabit Passive Optical Network). This technology provides users with up to 100 Mbit/s connection, uninterrupted internet, video surveillance and other interactive services through fiber-optic lines.
