Huawei has completed a global deployment of its enterprise-class Wi-Fi 6 products under the new AirEngine brand. Speaking at the company’s Global Analyst Summit, Huawei said its Wi-Fi 6 products have been deployed on a large scale in five major regions worldwide.
Wi-Fi 6 is the sixth generation Wi-Fi standard, also known as 802.11ax. The new standard increases Wi-Fi speeds, allows for more concurrently connected devices and better battery life for those devices, and improves Wi-Fi coverage in the home.
It promises speeds up to 9 Gbps using more advanced versions of multiuser MIMO than seen in the 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) standard. It leverages advanced technologies such as transmit beamforming, 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation mode and target wake time.
Huawei said its AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 products will support virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 4K use cases. The company claimed its AirEngine products have been verified as the industry’s best available by telecom test lab firm Tolly.
“Huawei AirEngine enables wireless networks to efficiently and reliably carry traditional wired network services,” said Zhao Zhipeng, president of campus network domain of Huawei’s data communication product line, speaking at the summit. “Typical benefits include smooth VR/AR teaching in education, 4K high-definition conferences and wireless offices for enterprises, as well as packet-loss-free automated guided vehicles in industrial manufacturing environments.”
Huawei has been involved in the development of the new Wi-Fi standard since 2014 and chaired the IEEE 802.11ax standard working group.
The Wi-Fi Alliance announced earlier this year that its Wi-Fi Certified 6 program will be coming online in the third quarter of 2019, and it expects commercial releases to ramp up in 2020.
