UN Commission gave information on international projects implemented in Azerbaijan’s transport and ICT sphere
The 75th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), which is one of the five regional commissions of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The session was dedicated to the theme “Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.
The Commission plays the role of a platform for regional states to discuss economic and social issues, as well as strengthen the regional cooperation. Azerbaijan has established high-level political relations with majority member countries of ESCAP. In particular, UNESCAP is an important platform for our country for cooperation in the field of transport, ICT and energy.
The event focused on promotion of transport and logistics in the period of sustainable development, the agenda until 2030, the development of transport links, and the work done in member countries in the field of information and communication technologies.
The session was attended by representatives of 47 countries, as well as officials from the ESCAP Secretariat and other international organizations and agencies.
At the session “Country Presentation”, the event participants were informed in detail on Azerbaijan’s implementation of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030, as well as the work done on projects of international importance implemented and initiated by the country in the fields of transport and ICT.
Our country also participated in the voting for the elections to the executive board of the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) and Asia Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) that are regional institutions of the organization.
